Nursing Home Music Ministry
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings.
It has now been 2 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far,
I've had the Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 5 Nursing
Homes. All in the name of Jesus!
Monday March 6 th ~
Ministered at the "Monte Siesta Nursing Center" here in Austin. Had
a great crowd of about 30 residents. Folks were singing along,
smiling, clapping, Nice! Robin (the activity director) made a personal
contribution for the ministry. May God Bless Her!
Later, out at Lakeway, I attended a pot-luck dinner-Home Group with
Diane (a very special lady who devotes her time to serving others).
Unfortunately we had to eat & run; Was unable to stay for the whole
evening because of the curfew in place at The Dream Center.
Although I'm not enrolled in the program there, I feel I do need to
abide by the House Rules.
Tuesday March 7 th ~
Spent some time on the computer.
Picked up some antibiotics for the First Aid Kit.
Went for a long walk.
Wednesday March 8 th ~
Over at the "Capitol City Health & Rehab Center" I sang during
Sharon's bi-weekly Bible Study. Spent some time visiting with folks
before and after. One gentleman came up to me and said "I want
you to learn a song, (Blessed Assurance)." I answered "Yes Sir". So
now I know which song to learn next.
A sweet, humble lady in a wheel chair, came over and asked me to
pray for her sister's Salvation. I did!
Thursday March 9 th ~
Food Pantry Day at the Dream Center Austin:  While a couple of us
were singing in the hall, a fella was ushered over whom I'd ran into a
few times over the past year at Angel's Recovery Church. His
countenance was so devastated by depression and alcohol, it made
me cry. I put up the guitar and visited with him while he was waiting
to go into the Healing Prayer Room.
Some time later, Luke, a young man who volunteers on a regular
basis, had brought his harmonica. So as things wound down, we got
together and did a few tunes. "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" &
"I Saw the Light". Fun!
Connected a couple of Dryers and a Washer, down in the basement.
Then finished out the day with choir practice at Jubilee.
Friday March 10 th ~
Did an oil change on the van, then my dear friend George, treated
me to lunch at Buffet Palace. We enjoyed a productive time of
Fellowship.
Swung by "The Park at Beckett Meadows". A lovely lady (Claire) had
been unable to attend when I played there last week. So I brought
her one of the CD's.
Saturday March 11 th ~
Spent some time on a computer, then attended the monthly "Jubilee
Christian Singles Event". We gathered at Sarah's, and headed over
to Slick Willy's for some pool shark'n. Then took our appetites to
Bill Miller BBQ for dinner. Finished out the evening at Sarah's
watching a movie "I Walk The Line".
Sunday March 12 th ~
At Jubilee I enjoyed the Honor of singing with the Praise & Worship
Team. Towards the end of the service, the Pastor called me up front
and lead the Church in Prayer for me and my mission. May God
Bless Them!
I was treated to lunch by Kevin & Jane, enjoying their company as
well as John and Sarah's.
Sunday evening, I attended the monthly Home Group Bible Study at
Sarah's. Where I took pleasure in the Honor of playing a couple of
songs. At one point, everyone gathered round, layed hands on me,
and prayed for me and the ministry. May God Bless Them!

And So Begins Another Week.

May The Lord Our God,
Guard, Guide And Direct You,
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!

Yours In Christ, Larry
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 3 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've enjoyed
the Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 10 Nursing Homes. All in the
name of Jesus!
Monday March 13 th ~
Arose early. Prepared and sent off the UPDATE. Took the morning and part of the
afternoon packing the van, visiting with - and saying goodbye to, George, Myra,
Mario and Anita. These folks have an awesome responsibility, and at times, a
very difficult job, managing The Dream Center Austin. Please pray for them.
Enjoyed a farewell dinner with my dear sister Sarah. (As I wrote this sentence I
got a little emotional, I'll miss her.) We stopped at a carnival, walked around a bit
and went on one ride. I got a mite queasy. Back at the house, she had presented
me with a beautiful gift. A Photo Album, with pictures from the fundraising dinner
& the Dream Center event. Complete with the jacket covers from the CD, little
guitar and musical emblems here & there. Also, numerous notes of
encouragement from folks in the Church, as well as a wonderful Poem she'd
written. May God Bless Her!!!
On my way out of town, I dropped in on my friend Joe. While taking a walk he
confessed his need to seek the Lord and his desire to put Him first. I encouraged
him to read his Bible and go to Church. I told him how it might be hard at first,
but in time he'd wonder how he ever got by without it. Please pray for him.
Tuesday March 14 th ~
After camping over-night at Wal-Mart, I did some shopping then headed
southeast. Dropped into the library in Lockhart, Texas to use their computer.
Then on to Yoakum, Texas, where I visited with my Dad for a bit. I had already
arranged to play there at the "Stevens Health Care & Rehab Center". Sang in the
Alzheimer's Unit for a half hour, then over in the main recreation room for another
half hour. One of the ladies in the Unit had told me "These songs calm me". The
Activity Director (Tishanne), was able to make a donation to the ministry. May
God Bless Her!
I hung around and had dinner with Pop. Then, over at a small house next to the
facility, I visited with my mom. Did what a lot of kids do when their at their
parents house. Laundry!
Wednesday March 15 th ~
My little brother came down from Buda and had lunch with mom, dad and I. Said
my goodbye's and drove 18 miles to the next town. Played at "Stevens Nursing &
Rehab of Hallettsville". Pretty good size crowd; several residents were singing
along with purt-near all the songs.
Attended mid-week services at the church next door, where a bunch of cousins
happened to have an acappella singing night planned. I really enjoyed singing
some bass in 4 part harmony. Afterwards, seven of us got together at the
parsonage for dinner and fellowship. Nice!
Thursday March 16 th ~
Headed further southeast, stopping in Edna, Texas where I ministered at the
"Care Inn of Edna". Several ladies got emotional during some of the songs; I'd
been told they don't get much entertainment here. Another resident (Anita),
wanted to make a donation. She handed me a one dollar bill, saying "This is all I
have". May God Bless Her!
Pulled into Bay City, Texas about noon and visited with my maternal grandmother
(Granny). She has a name, but she's always been Granny to me. She recently
moved into the assisted living section of "The Legacy". A large complex of
Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Full Nursing Care. I made arrangements
to play in the afternoon, then went for a long walk while Granny got a little
after-lunch rest. Came back about 3 pm and sang for her and some fifteen others.
The acoustics were great, and folks seemed to really enjoy it. Visited a bit more
with Granny, then headed North.
Friday March 17 th ~
Wildflowers are starting to pop-up along the highway's. Bluebonnets's, Indian
Blankets, Pink Buttercups. Pretty!
Pulled into a library at one point to do some work on their computer. Then walked
around town to get some exercise.
Continuing north, I stopped in Franklin, Texas and ministered at the "Franklin
Nursing Home". Sang for a large group in the cafeteria during their St. Patrick's
Day Celebration. It went very well, with lots of folks singing along. I got to visit
with quite a few residents, afterwards. One of the residents (Joe), slipped me a
donation. May God Bless Him!
Saturday March 18 th ~
Rained most all day. Heading north, I got to Antlers, Ok., along about 3 pm. Julia,
the mother of Jaquita (the Pastors wife at Jubilee), had invited me to come up
and sing in their nursing homes here. What Hospitality! She put me up in a
spacious bedroom. I was able to soak in a nice big tub. And for dinner she
created homemade chicken enchilada's. YUM!
Sunday March 19 th ~
Attended worship services at the "Living Water" church with Julia and her
sisters. Wonderful lesson that spoke to me. We enjoyed a delicious pot-roast
lunch, and spent the rest of the day watching TBN and fellowshipping. Julia is a
Hoot! ( I told her I would write that in my newsletter:-)

And So Begins Another Week.

May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!

Yours In Christ, Larry
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 4 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far, I've had the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 17 Nursing Homes and 2 Churches.
Praise God!
Monday March 20 th ~
Flat Tire! Came outside to go to the library and there it was. But the repair went
smooth and easy. Julia's sister (Sue), came over with her portable electric air
pump, and aired up the tire. I drove into town to the tire repair place, it had a 5
inch wire stuck in it. Took 15 minutes and 5 dollars to fix.
When I got to the library, it was closed. However, while I was at the Post Office,
they told me of a Coffee Shop down the block with Internet Access. So I was able
to send off the UPDATE as usual.
Along about 1:30 pm I ministered at the "Antlers Nursing Home". Edith (Julia's
sister), had gone with me and helped sing. We had a large crowd, with lots of
nurses and attendants dropping in and out. It was an uplifting time.
Tuesday March 21 st ~
Julia fixed another sumptuous breakfast. Edith came over and we sang a few
songs. I went into town to the library, then over to the "Choctaw Nation Nursing
Home". Sang for a group of about ten folks. It went very well, the activity director
joined in, singing with me. I had asked her to take some pictures with my camera,
but didn't fully explain which button to punch. So of all the shots she took, none
came out. I'll do better next time.
Wednesday March 22 nd ~
As I was packing the van, Julia & Edith, in addition to all they'd already done,
slipped me some gas money. May God Bless Them! I gave them both big ole
hug's, we prayed, then heading out of town, I stopped at the library to do some
work. While looking at the map, trying to figure out the best way to get back on a
southeasterly course; I realized I was only a hundred miles from some friends in
Arkansas.
So, I headed that way stopping in Poteau, Oklahoma to minister at "The Oaks
Healthcare Center". What a Joy!!! These folks really love the Lord. They were
singing along, smiling and clapping. Wonderful!
Drove on over to Hartford, Arkansas; And to my surprise, friends at the Assembly
of God were hosting the last day of a Revival. An awesome singer and guitar
player, Linnie Lindsay preached and sang a few songs. I enjoyed the Honor of
being asked to sing a special "When The Saints Go Marching In". All in all, it was
a good day!
Thursday March 23 rd ~
Snow!!! Woke up to snow coming down. Pretty! Spent a couple of hours finishing
Foxe's book on Christian Martyrs of the World. Took a bath at the parsonage,
over to the library for half an hour, then played at the "Hartford-Midland Senior
Center" before lunch. I was only going to do a few songs, but they kept asking
for one more. Made me feel special.
Headed south trying to get into warmer weather. Camped at a Wal-Mart in
DeQueen, Arkansas. Ruff night, it was very cold and something I ate gave me
stomach cramps.
Friday March 24 th ~
Continuing South. The stomach trouble finally eased up a bit along about noon. I
tried some crackers, ham & cheese, seemed to settle ok, so I stopped and sang
at the "Heritage Nursing Center" in Haynesville, Louisiana. The staff were very
surprised and excited about having me drop in. They gathered up a pretty good
size group of residents. Several folks made request and amazingly I knew the
ones they asked for. It was a good time.
Saturday March 25 th ~
Further South, I got onto Hwy 84 headed east. About 2 pm, I stopped in Zena,
Louisiana and played at the "LaSalle Nursing Home". Shortly after I started
playing, some ladies came in who hold a weekly service. They encouraged me to
keep playing, so I sang for about 30 minutes then turned it over to them. They
presented a short lesson, then invited me to join them at the other nursing home
in town. So I did.
At the "Golden Age Nursing Center", there was a large crowd already gathered. A
music group had been performing, were finished, and in the process of packing
up. The ladies wanted me to go ahead and start singing. So I told the residents
"Your getting a double feature today". I sang for a little over half an hour. This
lively group sang along, hollered out some request, shouted out a few Amen's &
Praise the Lord's. A lovely time.
Continued east into Mississippi and camped at the "Homochitto National Forest"
Clear Springs Campground. So I could get a shower before church the next day.
Sunday March 26 th ~
Showered up and got to the Lucien Baptist Church in Lucien, Mississippi in time
to visit with the Pastor (Owen) before services. Owen asked me to come up and
say a few things, sing a few songs, whatever & however the Spirit led me. I did.
He also invited me to his home for lunch where he, his wife, daughter and I
watched an inspirational testimonial video of a Born Again, ex-mobster. Then
back to church for evening worship where I enjoyed the Honor of contributing
another three songs during the service.
The Flock, having been encouraged by the Pastor, gave me a sweet love offering.
Which Owen matched. May God Bless Them!
After services, Owen and I enjoyed some more time of Fellowship. As we said our
goodbye's, he laid hands on me and offered up prayer for me and the ministry.

And So Begins Another Week.

May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!

Yours In Christ, Larry
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 5 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far, I've had the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 24 Nursing Homes and 3 Churches.
All In The Name Of Jesus.
Monday March 27 th ~
Laundry Day!  After spending a few hours at the library in Brookhaven, I located a
laundry mat in Monticello, Mississippi. One job out of the way for a couple of
weeks.
While heading out of town, I stopped at the "Lawrence County Hospital's Senior
Unit". The Staff here really Love the Lord. There were only 3 patients in the Unit,
but another 10 staff members joined in, in the singing. We had a wonderful time.
An old-timer who was in a wheelchair & a neck brace, seemed to perk-up about
half way through.
Tuesday March 28 th ~
Further east in Monroeville, Alabama. I dropped in at "The Meadows at Magnolia
Manor". A fella (Don), was scheduled to play for the folks. He'd just driven up,
when I arrived. After visiting for a bit, he asked me to join in playing for the
residents. We alternated, he'd sing a couple, then ask me to do one. They
seemed to really enjoy it. We all had a good ole time.
Out in the parking lot (while loading all his equipment), Don told me how he
normally stops playing in the locale Homes during the summer. Having to load &
unload all that equipment in the heat has become too much. However, he said
after today's experience, he realized he didn't need all that stuff. So he figures
he'll change his approach this summer, just bring an acoustic guitar, and keep
playing. May God Bless Him!
I finished out the day with a shower at the YMCA. And a movie at Wal-Mart.

Wednesday March 29 th ~
Before leaving town I ministered at the "Englewood Healthcare Center". Learned a
valuable lesson today. We had a large group, but they put us in the cafeteria
where ladies were making a lot of noise cleaning dishes from breakfast. This went
on during most of the time I was singing. It was tuff.
What I learned is, the activity department and I could have waited an hour. The
kitchen staff could have delayed their dish-washing and listened to some music.
Other options might have been availible, mainly for the benefit of the Patients.
A lesson for all of us; Not to be so set in our way's that we miss opportunities to
help others. For myself, it's to be patient with those who are set, and to be open
to changing MY ways.
Still, I got to sing some special request for folks. We enjoyed the last few songs
without distractions. And a lot of residents expressed their appreciation. All in all,
it ended well.
Drove on to Brewton, Alabama and looked for Lisa (a lady I met last year who was
doing a Walk-a-thon to Washington). Got lucky and caught her at home. We
visited a bit, then she treated me to dinner (which is what she does). She
administers a Food Bank, from which she distributes to the needy. May God
Bless Her!
Thursday March 30 th ~
Mid-morning I ministered over at "The Meadows Assisted Living Residence" here
in Brewton. It went very well.
Early afternoon I played at the "West Gate Village". What a pleasure! Most of the
folks were singing along. Some simply making a "Joyful Noise" which had us all
laughing & feeling good.   The activity personnel asked me to come to the other
unit and continue. This group was a little slower to join in, but they eventually got
there. During the last song (Just a Closer Walk With Thee), one gentleman got a
rhythm going with his foot stomp'n & hand clap'n. Matched what I was doing with
the guitar and vocals so well, I was WALK'N in circles.                       Afterwards
the staff treated me to a coca cola ice cream float. We enjoyed a nice little visit.
Also, somewhere along the line, somebody dropped a 20 in my guitar case. May
God Bless Them!!
Friday March 31 st ~
Dipped down into Florida, and ministered at the "Southern Home Assisted Living
Retirement Center" in Graceville, Florida. This is a small facility with about ten
residents. One lady, remembering me from last year, asked if I'd learned the song
she had asked me to. I hadn't, and had to apologize. As I was leaving, she handed
me a five dollar bill and laughingly said "Here, go buy a gallon and a half of gas".
Pretty sharp ole Gal. May God Bless Her!
Further east at the Georgia border, I stumbled onto a free campground in a park
next to the Chattahoochee River. Nice & quiet, hundred's of tall trees, next to a
lovely river. Serene!
Saturday April 1 st ~
Did some reading. Went for a walk. Got a shower. Drove into Donalsonville,
Georgia and ministered at the "Seminole Manor". Enjoyed the pleasure of singing
for a large receptive group. One particular, very spiritually minded fellow, gave
me a compliment So Awesome, I'm too humbled to repeat it. Then he got
emotional and couldn't say any more.
Sunday April 2 nd ~
Attended the Lords Lighthouse Church just outside of Bainbridge, Georgia where
I had the Honor of contributing a couple of songs. Spent some time in fellowship
after services and ended up camping there for the night.

And So Begins Another Week.

May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!

Yours In Christ, Larry
