Nursing Home Music Ministry

Dear Brothers And Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 15 weeks since beginning this years mission. To date,
I've Enjoyed the Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 58 Nursing
Homes and 6 Churches. To God Be The Glory!
Monday June 5 th ~
Drove to Yoakum (about 90 miles), to see my parents. Had a nice visit,
then returned to Austin by evening.
Tuesday June 6 th ~
Performed a few miscellaneous maintenance type jobs around the
center. Did some walking exercises for the back. Spent some time with
Sarah working on the web site.
Wednesday June 7 th ~
Pulled out the guitar for the first time since the teeth & back episodes.
Played a while for the volunteers, who are working here at the Center
preparing for tomorrow's Food Pantry Day.
Did some more walking. Attended mid-week worship services at Jubilee
where I was Honored to be able to sing with the Praise Team.
Thursday June 8 th ~
Food Pantry Day here at the Dream Center. Had my guitar out through
most of it. An attractive young lady (Jessica, one of the volunteer's),
sang a number of songs with me. Beautiful Voice!
Friday June 9 th ~
Ministered at an assisted living facility "The Park at Becket Meadows".
A lovely group of residents, who sang along with most of the songs.
They made a few request, most of which I knew. Lots of smiles and toe
tap'in. Good time.
Attended an Evening Worship Service at the Dream Center. Where a
couple of Godly women came into agreement-in-prayer, asking the
father for a small RV for my ministry. May God Bless Them!
Saturday June 10 th ~
The Dream Center held a Benefit Yard Sale today. I pulled out the guitar
and played a bit. The Director of the Center (Myra), sang along with
some of the songs, in between her other duties. She has a Lovely
singing voice.
It's kind of interesting seeing the different reactions on peoples faces,
when they stop at what they believe to be a Garage Sale, and encounter
Gospel Music. Another First!
Sunday June 11 th ~
Attended Worship Services at Jubilee Christian Center, where I enjoyed
the Honor of singing in the Praise Team during both morning services.
Joined the Singles Group for lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Then over
to my sister, Janet's house, where I visited with her and my nephew
Mathew, saying my goodbye's in anticipation of heading back out on the
mission.
Attended Sarah's Home Group Bible Study, where I enjoyed the privilege
of contributing a song "I Can Only Imagine". Then back to the Center
for the night.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry
Dear Brothers & Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 18 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've Enjoyed the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 80 Nursing Homes and 8 Churches. To God
Be The Glory!
Monday June 26 th ~
I had been invited to breakfast by the Directors (Dean & Peggy) of the facility here at Fort
Seminoe. It is owned and operated by the Mormon organization. Dean asked me to sing a
couple of songs for the tour guides, about 20 folks who live here in their RV's for 6
months.
After breakfast Peggy gave me a bag of homemade cookies for the road, and Dean
handed me an envelope with a contribution for the ministry. May God Bless Them!
A few miles down the road, I hiked around and on top of "Independence Rock". Which is a
Granite mountain used as a landmark during the Pioneer days. Folks heading west on the
Oregon Trail, had the goal of reaching this location by July 4 th, in order to make it over
the mountains before winter.
Continuing north I stopped in Buffalo, Wy. and ministered at the "Amie Holt Care Center".
Sang for a group of residents before dinner. Two ladies sitting together, sang along with
most of the songs. And afterwards they both wanted to give a dollar each to the ministry.
May God Bless Them!
Tuesday June 27 th ~
Spent the morning visiting with Rick. A Brother I'd met last year in Rawlins, Wy. who is in
the V.A. Hospital here in Sheridan.
In the afternoon I ministered at the "Sheridan Manor" for a rather large group of
residents. Went very well.
Across the street from the Home, I visited with a fella (Tony) who was painting the sign
on a church. He invited me to join his family for dinner at a Chinese buffet. Where we had
a wonderful time of Fellowship. May God Bless Them!
Wednesday June 28 th ~
Mid-morning I ministered at the "Westview Health Care Center" here in Sheridan. Sang for
a nice little crowd, in a rather small activity room. One lady looked a lot like my aunt Jean,
and sang most all the songs with me.
Started north, then turned west into the mountains. Got up into the Big Horn National
Forest and parked for the night next to a rock outcropping, overlooking a valley with
several mountain meadows in between lots of trees. He even threw in an afternoon
thunderstorm across the ridge to cool things down a bit.
Thursday June 29 th ~
While crossing the mountain range, I went for a short hike at Burgess Junction Visitor
Center. Also toured Shell Falls a little further on.
On the west side of the Big Horn Mt. Range I stopped in Basin, Wy. and ministered at the
"Wyoming Retirement Center": A very large facility, they had me sing in the Men's special
needs section. Then across the complex to the Women's special needs section. One
group was a bit Rowdy'er than the other.
Then across town I played at the "Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home". Sang for a
nice group of folks. Several sang along with most all the songs. The A.D. here, and an
attendant at the other facility, both slipped me a little something for the ministry. May
God Bless Them!
Continued into central Wyoming to a road side rest area for the night in the "Wind
Canyon Indian Reservation".
Friday June 30 th ~
Drove to Riverton, Wy. and ministered at the "Wind River Healthcare & Rehab Center".
Sang for a large crowd in the Cafeteria. One fella did a little cussing at one point, but it
didn't last long. Several got emotional during certain songs. All in all it went well.
After stopping at the library, I drove on to Lander, Wy. and ministered at the "Westward
Heights Care Center". Sang for a smaller group in a central area next to the nurses
station, with good acoustics. A male resident kept time with his hands, and a smile on his
face, which was encouraging. Also a couple of three ladies sang along with most all the
songs.
Continuing south, the van came close to overheating while climbing a steep grade.
Nursed it over the summit and parked for the night at a roadside Historical Site.
Saturday July 1 st ~
Drove around the extreme southern end of the Grand Teton's, over to the west side. Did
a Two and a half mile hike at Fossil Monument.
Sunday July 2 nd ~
Attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cokeville, Wyoming. Then
crossed the border into Idaho to the town of Montpelier. Ministered at the "Bear Lake
Memorial Hospital & Skilled Nursing Facility". Endured a rough start, but with
perseverance it ended well.
Drove eight miles off the highway up into the Caribou National Forest where I hiked some,
read some & parked for the night.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry
Dear Brothers And Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 16 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've enjoyed the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 63 Nursing Homes and 7 Churches. To God
Be The Glory!
Monday June 12 th ~
Made a run up to Jarrell, Tx. (45 miles) to check out an RV. It was out of my reach $$$$.
Which is just as well. It had a few too many strikes against it anyway. And although it
delayed my departure another day, by looking at, and test driving it, I learned some
things I didn't know before.
Tuesday June 13 th ~
Did a tune up on the van; spark plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, air filter and an oil change.
Still smokes, but not quite as bad.
Enjoyed a Chinese buffet lunch with Brother George.
Wednesday June 14 th ~
Purchased two new tires for the van, $110.00 Ouch!
Stopped in LLano, Texas and ministered at the "Hill Country Health Care" facility. An
enthusiastic little group. Afterwards, the Activity Director (Nancy), asked me to stay for a
meal, took me to a room and introduced me to their Pastor (Elmore). Had our dinner
tray's brought to the room.
Elmore has been sleeping a lot and doesn't have an appetite. He told me he had been a
Full Gospel Evangelist, and said lately he has become discouraged and wants to go
HOME (meaning to be with God). We Prayed!
I continued another hundred miles north to a rest area on top of a mesa. Where I camped
for the night. Nice cool breeze! Quite! Slept like a baby!
Thursday June 15 th ~
Heading north I made it into the Panhandle along about 3:30 and found the "Park View
Manor" in Wellington, Texas. Where I sang for a gentle group of ladies, one of which was
very pleasant & complimentary. Several sang along so quietly I couldn't hear them,
except for one 96 year old. I can only hope to be able to sing that good at that age.
They invited me to stay for a delicious dinner, and even gave me the use of their guest
bath, for a shower. May god Bless Them!
A few miles north I camped in a nice road side park. A strong south wind blew all night. It
was a little warm at first, but the wind did serve to keep the flies & mosquitoes dispersed.
Friday June 16 th ~
In Canadian, Texas, I ministered at the "Edward Abraham Memorial Home". An attentive
mixture of residents and visitors, it went very well. One lady told me "This lifted me up".
Which of course, lifted ME up.
Saturday June 17 th ~
Stopped at the "Senior Village Nursing Home" in Perryton, Texas. Timing was pretty
good, a large group were in the middle of eating lunch, and I was allowed to jump right in,
walking around the tables singing. One lady said "This is great, it gets rather dull around
here".
Just a few blocks further into town, I stumbled onto a shady city park with free camping.
Settled in. Went for a couple of long walks for some exercise. Did some reading. A
pleasant afternoon.
Sunday June 18 th ~
The Spirit lead me to attend the "Cornerstone Church of God" here in Perryton. The
Praise & Worship leader was out of town due to Fathers Day. So I enjoyed the Honor of
contributing a couple of Special's, as did two other folks.
It being their sunday to minister at "The Seasons Assisted Living", I was invited to join
the Pastor (Keith), his wife, mon & dad there, where I had the Privilege to sing a number
of songs.
Back at the Church for Evening Worship Services, Keith put me behind a couple of
microphones leading the Praise & Worship. With the Pastor on drums, a lady singing
back-up vocals, and an 81 year old on the piano. We did 7 songs and it went amazingly
well.
At the end of the Service, Keith surprised us all by taking up a Love Offering for the
ministry. Very Thoughtful! May God Bless Them!
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry

A sponge bath, 2 one gallon jugs of water to wash the hair, and I feel like I can face the
public.
Was able to use the computer in the library here in Perryton, Texas to send off the
UPDATE.
Started north. Drove thru the little Oklahoma panhandle and into Kansas. Stopped at the
"Pioneer Manor" in Hugoton, Kansas. Ministered for a small group of residents. Went
well.
I was able to witness to a couple of attendants, in response to their questions, about the
need to make use of the short time we have here in this life, to prepare for the next
(Eternity).
Continued into western Kansas and camped at the fairgrounds in Tribune.
Tuesday June 20 th ~
Did a little back exercising & walking around the grounds exploring some abandoned
amusement rides. Then across town to the "Greely County Health Services" Assisted
living & Long Term Care Facility, which is attached to the Hospital here in Tribune. I was
allowed to sing for the hour before lunch, for a large group of residents. Received a
number of request and some singing along. Went very well.
Continued north to Sharon Springs, KS. where I ministered at the "Prairie Manor Good
Samaritan Center". A smaller crowd which seemed to appreciate the diversion from
routine.
A little further north I camped in another small town city park, where I got to watch an
awesome Lightning Show. Some wind, some rain, some hail. But mostly Thunder &
Lightning. Impressive!
Wednesday June 21 st ~
Over to the "St. Francis Good Samaritan Village" here in St. Francis, Kansas. Sang for a
lovely group of residents. The A.D. was in the middle of starting home made ice-cream.
After a few songs she sat down and sang with me, along with the folks. About 45 minutes
later I asked if I was holding things up. She said "We have all day to make ice-cream".
Towards the end, a newspaper reporter came in , took a few photo's and interviewed me
afterwards.
Back on the road I cut across the northeast corner of Colorado. Stopping in Holyoke, Co.
I ministered at the "Holyoke Health & Rehab Center". The A.D. (Donna), was
overwhelmed. Seems she had been praying for someone to do their 3:30 pm Wednesday
Devotional. And I showed up at precisely 3:30. God works in Mysterious ways!
Thursday June 22 nd ~
In Chappell, Nebraska I ministered at " Miller Memorial Care Center & Assisted Living" for
a gentle group of folks. I was able to step in during their Devotional time.
Lots of thunderstorms around and in my path, so I took refuge just outside of town at a
free County Campground (Chappell Lake). Did some reading, and walking in between
storms.
Friday June 23 rd ~
Did a one mile walk. Then drove to Kimball, Nebraska where I sang for a wonderful group
at the "Kimball County Manor & Assisted Living " facility. Lots of smiles and singing
along.
The A.D. (Cindy) put a Thank You Note in my guitar case, along with a 10 dollar donation.
May God Bless Her!
I went around the block to a Public Swimming Pool for a shower, then continued west into
Wyoming to a rest area for the night.
Saturday June 24 th ~
Spent the morning Hiking in the Medicine Bow National Forest between Laramie &
Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Then drove on to Rawlins, Wy. and ministered at "The Care Pavilion". A long term care
unit on the third floor of the Hospital. Then over to "South Central Wyoming Healthcare &
Rehabilitation". Where I was able to sing for a large group in the Cafeteria. The staff were
very accommodating, gathering folks together, serving them ice cream during the
singing. And even treated me to dinner, and allowed me the use of their computer. But
most touching, was a Native American resident who gave 2 dollars for the ministry. May
God Bless Them All !!!
Hooked up with some members of the "Church on the Rock". Francis' family gave me a
place to park for the night and a shower at their place. May God Bless Them!
Sunday June 25 th ~
Enjoyed a big traditional breakfast with Francis' family, then attended Church with them
where I had the Privilege of singing with the Praise Team. The Pastor ( Randy) delivered a
powerful sermon, and at the end gave me the Honor of contributing a couple of Specials.
After Services Randy invited me to join his family for pizza, and, handed me a Lovely
Offering for the ministry. May God Bless Him!
Did laundry in town, then headed north, stopping at Fort Seminoe Historic Site where the
Directors (Dean & Peggy) allowed me to camp for the night.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
