Nursing Home Music Ministry

Dear Brothers & Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 19 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far,
I've Enjoyed the Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 87 Nursing
Homes and 9 Churches. To God Be The Glory!
Monday July 3 rd ~
Pulled into Soda Springs, Idaho and ministered at the "Caribou Memorial
Hospital & Living Center". Sang in a large room with over twenty
recliners set up in rows and against one wall. Comfortable!
After spending some time in a library to send off the UPDATE, I went
over to the "Spring Creek Manor". An assisted living facility where I was
allowed to sing as folks were finishing lunch. It went very well. The
residents were singing along with most of the songs. One lady had a
beautiful Alto singing voice.
Before leaving town I watched a yearly Fourth of July tradition they
have here in Soda Springs. In the park out back of the library, the Fire
Department creates a large (half a football field) Soap Puddle. Literally
hundreds of kids play in this Foam, while the Firemen continue to spray
the area with their water canons. Fun for all!
Tuesday July 4 th ~
In American Falls, Idaho I ministered at the "Harms Memorial Hospital
Long Term Care Unit". With about an hour before I could play, I was
allowed the use of their shower facilities. M.G.B.T!
At 10:00 am I started singing. Over the next 15 minutes folks came in
from the Hospital section upstairs. With a couple of nurses sitting in
offering encouragement, we had a wonderful time.
Further down the road, I lowered my blood sugar a bit by going on a
long hike near the Snake River.
Wednesday July 5 th ~
In Mountain Home, Idaho, I sang at the "Elmore Medical Center Long
Term Care" facility. The A.D. had the same last name as me, so she got
a big ole hug. As I finished singing and was going around thanking folks
for listening, there was a lady with the aliment that causes shaking. She
couldn't speak, but when I took her hand she looked me in the eye, with
hers full of tears. Touched me!
Drove across the border and into the Eastern Oregon High Desert. Lost
a hub cap somewhere along the way. Parked for the night at the Bible
Baptist Church in Hines, Oregon.
Thursday July 6 th ~
THIS DAY IN THE LIFE:
Up early, completed daily journal entry then over to the Public
Swimming Pool for a shower.
To Laundry Mat, triple loader.
"Ashley Manor Care Center" Hines, Oregon. Residential style facility
with large living room.
Post Office, mailed Grant Request to RV Dealers.
Toured Museum next to Library until the latter opened.
Over to Library - Answered Emails,
Paid Auto Liability Insurance on-line ($207.50) Ouch!
"The Aspens Living Center" Hines, Oregon. (After singing, one lady was
adamant about wanting to donate 2 dollars to the ministry. May God
Bless Her!)
To Grocery Store - Bought dinner (chicken) and Ice (to keep Insulin
cool).
Gassed up on the way out of town.
Stopped in Rest Area down the road: Ate Dinner.
Visited with a Trucker for a while.
Hiked up and back, twice, on their half mile "Sage Hen Nature Trail".
(While sitting on a rock praying, a coyote loped by 30 feet away.)
Did some reading & to bed.
Friday July 7 th ~
On the road by 7:30 am. I got to Bend, Oregon before I was scheduled
to play at 10:30 am. Had a great group with good participation. Several
times, after clapping had died down following songs, one fella (George)
would holler out HaRRaH! I got the impression he couldn't clap. It was
Special.
Arlis (the activity director whom I had met last year at a different facility
in a different town) treated me to lunch, and, made a donation to the
ministry. May God Bless Her!
Continuing west, I pulled off the highway a few hundred yards in the
Cascade Range for the night.
Saturday July 8 th ~
Drove through the mountains into Eugene, Oregon. Stopped at the
Norkenzie Church of Christ & visited with old friends, the Elders Roy &
Darlene. Fixed a fluorescent light, took a shower, got invited to dinner.
Swung by some friends (Larry & Kelly). Visited for a while, then over
to Roy & Darlene's for Pot-Roast. Yum! Sat out in the cool back yard
fellowshipping till the moon came out. Parked there for the night.
Sunday July 9 th ~
Attended the early service at "Grace Community Fellowship" where I got
to say Hi to some folks. Then over to "Norkenzie Church of Christ"
where I got to say Hi to some more folks.
Stopped by an old friend (Ralph), I worked for at one time. Then to
Hometown Buffet where I was able to use a gift card given to me by
William (the trumpet player at Jubilee).
Attended evening services at "Bethany Church of Franklin" where I
Enjoyed the Honor of Leading the congregation in Praise & Worship.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen.
Yours In Christ, Larry
Dear Brothers & Sisters In Christ, Greetings.

It has now been 20 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've Enjoyed the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 92 Nursing Homes and 9 Churches. To God

Monday July 10 th ~
At the Norkenzie Church here in Eugene, Oregon I was able to use their computer to send
out the UPDATE. Also spent time on the phone lining up nursing homes to sing in. There
are enough in this area to keep me busy for three weeks.
Showered at the church, then over to "Farmington Square Senior Care Community". Sang
in the main building for a lovely group of folks, then over to Bldg. B (Memory Care). A
gentle group of residents, we had a sweet time.
Out to the Franklin Church for dinner with a horde of Vacation Bible School kids.
Tuesday July 11 th ~
Ministered at the "Alpine Springs Assisted Living Community". Enjoyed an encouraging
group of folks. Afterwards while shaking hands a lady said "I was spiritually fed". Which
was rewarding for me.
While out in Franklin at the VBS, I was given a donation from the congregation for the
ministry. May God Bless Them!
Got over to the livestock auction barn in time for the "Cowboy Church". Just love seeing
these hard core cowboys with their boots and hats Praising God, Jesus & The Holy
Spirit. Delightful!
Wednesday July 12 th ~
Just outside of Eugene, I played at the "Junction City Retirement & Assisted Living
Residence". A fabulous group. Lots of request, singing along and clapping. We had a
good ole time.
After lunch I went to see Mission Impossible III at the dollar theater. Then over to Mike &
Jean's for their weekly Ping Pong/Music Party/Get-together. Got to visit with some old
friends.
Thursday July 13 th ~
Played at the "Applegate Care Center" here in Eugene. This is an older residential type
facility. The Activity Director (Bob), brought in his guitar and accompanied me on all the
songs. Worked well, the folks seemed to really enjoy it.
At the Volunteer's for Medicine Clinic, I stopped & said hi to Cheryl, who years ago helped
me out with training & support when I first contracted Diabetes.
Then out to Franklin's VBS, where (in the Fellowship Hall) I sat in a recliner & drifted off
to sleep. Even with all those kids running around:-)
Friday July 14 th ~
Ministered in Eugene at the "Sheldon Park Assisted Living & Memory Care" facility. Had a
nice little group in a large cafeteria with a few folks up in a balcony. Went Well.
Over to Gary & Nora's (old friends) who were having a benefit garage sale for their
neighborhood watch program. Gary and I pulled out our guitars and played some old
songs we hadn't done in a long time. It was fun. At one point, Gary slipped me a little
something for the ministry. May God Bless Him!
Saturday July 15 th ~
Mike & Jean, having already planned a long weekend out of town, invited me to house-sit
while they were gone. So I enjoyed the opportunity to do laundry, soak in a tub, and
except for watering the flowers and a long walk to the store, spent the rest of the day (Oh
Dee 'en on Tee Vee 'en).
Sunday July 16 th ~
Attended Worship Services at the Santa Clara Church of Christ here in Eugene, where I
got to say hi to some old friends. Spent the rest of the day recovering from an eventful
week.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry
Dear Brothers & Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 21 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've Enjoyed the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 96 Nursing Homes and 10 Churches. To God

Monday July 17 th ~
Sent off the UPDATE from the computer at Mike & Jean's. Then got over to the
"Grandview Rehab & Specialty Care" facility in Junction City, Oregon. Debra (the A.D.)
wasn't able to be there, she had a problem with some horses at home she had to deal
with. So I started a little earlier than planned. Ended up with a good size crowd of
residents. Plus nurses, attendants & staff were coming in & out to listen. It went very
well.
Tuesday July 18 th ~
Did a 3 mile walk. Some reading. Then got over to Jimmy & Patricia's where I'd been
invited to spend some time. We enjoyed some great fellowship, they treated me to lunch,
use of their shower & computer. We played some songs. A nice refreshing time of getting
to know a brother & sister in Christ.
Then over to the "Cowboy Church" where Jimmy plays the keyboard in the Praise Team.
Because the Livestock Auction Barn was a little stuffy, they held church outside in front
of the building, next to a four lane highway. I'm guessing about a hundred folks,
Worshipping The Lord out in front of God and everybody. Beautiful!!!
Wednesday July 19 th ~
Did a 3 and a half mile walk. Then over to "Eugene Rehab & Specialty Care". Nice little
group with lots of request and singing along. Went well. The A.D. (Dennis) was able to
make a donation to the ministry. May God Bless Him!
Attended Mike & Jeans weekly Ping Pong/Music night. Played a few songs with the guys.
Thursday July 20 th ~
Ministered at the "Gateway Gardens Adult Residential Care" facility. This is an up-scale
suburban type cull-de-sac, with a central building containing offices and the activity
room. The staff helped a large number of folks gather in this central location. For
about 20 minutes before I was due to start, I walked around visiting, practicing the
current song I'm learning, playing a few other songs. Basically just warming up while
everybody was coming and going, getting settled in.
The next hour went extremely well. These residents were enthusiastic & appreciative.
Complimented & encouraged me all along the way. Very Uplifting!
Later on, at the Mall, I did some walking. And at the dollar theater watched a cute Robin
Williams movie "RVing". Made me laugh, made me cry.
Friday July 21 st ~
Sang at the "Good Neighbor Care of Eugene". They have five buildings housing 10 to 15
residents each. With their own living rooms, kitchens, etc. It was an unusually hot day.
So the A.D. asked if I could go to each house, instead of trying to move the folks through
the heat to a central location. I spent 20 to 25 minutes in each home. Ended up taking
two hours. Worked well.
Saturday July 22 nd ~
This part of the country during the summertime, normally comfortable in the day (80's)
and cool at night (50's). Goes through 2 or 3 periods per summer where it gets into the
high 90's and low 100's and doesn't cool down as much at night. These spells last for 3 to
10 days, then it cools back down. We're in one of these stages right now. Thankfully,
Mike & Jean had invited me to dinner for the evening. And they have air conditioning.
Yea!
Their daughter Cassey, and Jean's mom Marsha, joined us in this cool environment for a
delicious Grilled Salmon Dinner. Yum! Later on we sang a bunch of Hymns, then
watched a movie. Relaxing!
Sunday July 23 rd ~
Up early and over to Grace Community Fellowship for their first service. Then over to
Garden Way Church for their second service. Then over to the Norkenzie Church for a
Pot-Luck Dinner-on-the-Grounds. Yum!
Later in the afternoon I attended the evening worship services out at the Franklin Church.
Where I enjoyed the Honor of contributing some songs.
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry
I hope and pray all is well with you and yours.
It has now been 22 weeks since beginning this years mission. So far I've Enjoyed the
Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 101 Nursing Homes and 11 Churches. To
God Be The Glory!
Monday July 24 th ~
Did a 3 and a half mile walk out in the country. Blackberries are ripening, so I had
breakfast while I was at it.
Drove into Eugene to the Norkenzie Church to shower & send out the UPDATE. Then
over to "Terpening Terrace" where I was able to sing for a lovely group of folks. They
stumped me with some of their request for songs. Seems like I knew a little less than half
the ones they asked for. Guess I need to keep learning songs.
The assistant activity director (Shirley), slipped me a donation, but more than that, she
had come in on her day off just to hear me sing. Made me feel special. May God Bless
Her!
Downtown to Roy & Darlene's for a Steak, Potato & Salad Dinner. YUM!
Darlene over paid me a bit, supposedly for hanging a light fixture for them. Of course it
was for the ministry. May God Bless Them!
Tuesday July 25 th ~
A three and a half mile walk. Blackberry breakfast. Church shower. Then over to the
"Good Neighbor Care of Springfield". Where I sang for 15 or so residents. Went well.
Out at the "Cowboy Church", I enjoyed the Honor of contributing a Special (I Can Only
Imagine) during the worship service. A friend (Jimmy) had given me the use of his
acoustic/electric guitar. With that and a vocal microphone we had enough volume for this
large crowd in an outdoor environment. Worked well.
Wednesday July 26 th ~
Did a 4 mile walk & got a blister.
Ministered at the "Riverpark Nursing & Rehab Center". A friend (Jean) sat in & sang along
with a lovely group of residents. It went very well.
Spent the evening at Mike & Jean's where I did some visiting and played a few songs.
Thursday July 27 th ~
Up early and over to Gary & Nora's where I had been offered the opportunity to house-sit
for a few days. Got lined out & settled in. Made some breakfast, showered and headed
over to the "Marquis Care at Springfield". This is a poor facility. Not all, but most folks
were rather quite & reserved. But you never know, till it's all said & done.
Afterwards, when I shook one particular gentleman's hand and thanked him for listening,
he looked at me with tears in his eyes and said "I wouldn't have missed it". Ran a
few errands, and swung by the "Terpening Terrace" to use a complimentary dinner card
I'd been given when I sang there earlier in the week. Betty (the A.D.) gave me an
additional dinner card, as well as a check they'd prepared for me. May God Bless Them!
Then back to Gary & Nora's to pet the cats & sit on the house. Kinda nice to spread out a
bit.
Friday July 28 th ~
Ministered at the "South Hills Rehabilitation Center" for a sweet group of residents. Then
in the afternoon I went for a long walk to the "Terpening Terrace" to use my last
complimentary dinner card. Then walked back to G & N's for the night.
Saturday July 29 th ~
Spent the day kick'in back here at G & N's doing laundry & watch'in TV.
Sunday July 30 th ~
Attended Worship Services at the Franklin Church. The Youth had been in Washington
for a week long camp. So they lead the service and shared some of their experiences.
Afterwards there was a Picnic-on-the-grounds, complete with hamburgers, hotdogs and
games.
Later on I went to a Birthday Party at Mike & Jeans. Good food, good music. Had the
chance to say goodbye to some old friends for another year. One friend (Tommy) slipped
me a little something for the ministry. May God Bless Him!
And So Begins Another Week.
May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!
Yours In Christ, Larry
