Nursing Home Music Ministry











To My Brothers & Sisters In Christ, Greetings.
I Hope And Pray All Is Well With You And Yours.
It has now been 21 weeks since beginning this years Ministry. To date,
I've had the Privilege of Sharing the Gospel in Song with 131 Nursing
Homes & 13 Churches. I Praise God For This Opportunity!
Monday August 1 st ~
Ministered at "Grandview Rehab & Specialty Care", in Junction City,
Or. Had a small group, three of which sang along with most all the
songs. The Activity Director (Debbie) gave me a Lovely Hallmark Card.
Which also contained two, five dollar bills. May God Bless Her!
Tuesday August 2 nd ~
Played at the Junction City Retirement & Assisted Living Residence",
in Junction City, Or. We ended up with a large group. About the time I
was finishing up, a lady came in with a LLama. Mary (the A.D.), took
my picture, standing next to this Beautiful Animal. Drove on
into Corvallis, Or., and sang at the "West Hills Assisted Living
Community". Another large group. Roughly half-way through, E.M.S.
came and took someone from their room, to the hospital. This
obviously gave us something to think on, while singing about God,
Jesus, Heaven and Salvation.
Wednesday August 3 rd ~
Sang at the "Newport Rehab & Specialty Care Center", in Newport, Or.
Spent a good part of the day there; Visiting with Ron, who is
rehabilitating his foot complications from diabetes. Along about 3:00
pm, I sang for a small group for an hour. Then, sat down on a stool &
visited for another hour, playing a song every now and then.
Attended mid-week worship services at a Nazarene Church, where
they allowed me a place to park for the night & a shower. May God
Bless Them!
Thursday August 4 th ~
Went over to the north side of town, to the "Oceanview Retirement &
Assisted Living Residence". I was asked to sing during lunch, for a Big
group of residents, who were scattered around a large open area, at
Dinner Tables. It was quite a challenge, without a sound system. So, I
found a central location where most folks could hear me, then every
now and then, I'd walk around the perimeter while singing. Seemed to
work OK, even noticed some singing along. I was invited to stay and
have lunch with the Staff. Delicious Meal! Before I left, the A.D. (Vicki),
gave me a twenty dollar donation for the ministry. May God Bless Her!
Parked back at the Nazarene Church and went for a long walk to
the library, then down to the Beach. Went out to the waters edge, and
just spent some time in Awe of God's Creation.
Friday August 5 th ~
Poured some more No-Smoke additive into the van. I suspect, we're
getting down to the wire, with this vehicle. Please Pray with me about
this situation.
Drove across the Bridge into South Beach, Or., and ministered at
"Spencer Home Assisted Living". A small group of residents gathered
in the Living Room after lunch, where I sang for about an hour, and
enjoyed a nice reception from the folks.
Saturday August 6 th ~
Did some walking on the Beach, and some Reading.
Sunday August 7 th ~
Attended morning Worship Services in Newport. Then spent some
time walking on the Beach. Later, I attended evening services. Clyde
(who works at the church as a Janitor), treated me to dinner at Izzy's
(an all-u-can-eat buffet). We had a nice time of fellowship. May God
Bless Him!
And so begins another week.

Monday August 8 th ~
In Yachats, Or., I sang in the Dinning Room, during lunch, at the "Sea Aire Assisted
Living Facility". Several folks seemed to be uplifted & moved by the old songs. The
Christian owners/operators (Gordon & Shirley), treated me to lunch, and, made a 25
dollar donation to the ministry. May God Bless Them! The Cook there, Terry, and
his wife Barbara (whom I met yesterday at church in Newport), had invited me to join
them for Dinner at their place, for Monday evening. Terry B.B.Q.'d up some
outstanding chicken, Barbara made up some passion fruit salad, potato salad and
corn-on-the-cobb. YUM! YUM! We had a wonderful time of Fellowship.
Tuesday August 9 th ~
Terry & Barbara treated me to a Delicious Breakfast, with Omelet, Sausage & Fruit.
YUM! They also provided a shower, And, presented to me a book about Angels, with
a Beautiful personal inscription inside. May God Bless Them!
Drove South, along an awesome stretch of the Coast Hwy, into Florence, Oregon.
Where I ministered at the "Spruce Point Assisted Living Facility". They positioned
me in the Lobby, with Folks all around and up in a second floor Balcony. The Spirit
was Present. I saw lots of smiles; singing along; even heard an Amen. The Activity
Director (Annette), invited me to join them for Dinner. And, made a ten dollar
donation to the ministry. May God Bless Her!
Wednesday August 10 th ~
Sang at "Aidan Healthcare", here in Florence. Had a nice little group of residents,
who gave me a warm reception. Several Staff members stopped by to sing along
with a song, here and there, in-between their Duties. Received some Beautiful
Compliments. Barbara (the A.D.), was able to make an eight dollar donation to the
ministry. May God Bless Her!
Thursday August 11 th ~
On my way to sing, I spotted a guy walking down the Hwy. with a Large Cross. He's
based out of Portland, Or., and periodically takes up his cross (which he has made
out of 4x4 lumber, with a wheel attached to the long end), straps his packs to it, and
heads down the coast & back. He has a friend with him carrying his own back pack.
As you can imagine, many people see this, and Thoughts are turned to Our Lord. We
shared the realization that, when the Lord puts something in your heart to do; AND
YOU DO IT! He gives you that JOY! That PEASE that passeth ALL understanding.

I went on to the "Elderberry Square Residential Care Facility", here in Florence. This
complex has three separate buildings. With their own Kitchen's, Living Room's,
Dinning Room's, etc.,housing about 13 resident's each. I sang first in the
Alzheimer's unit, for about 30 minutes. Then walked over to; and sang for another 30
minutes, at the unit with residents having less sever forms of Dementia. (This turned
out to be the most uplifting for me, with many singing along, and expressions of
appreciation.) Ended up at the Assisted Living unit, housing less mentally/ more
physically handicapped individuals. It was here I was invited to join them for Dinner.
Seated next to a gentleman who had sang along with many of the songs; He
related to me that he was Jewish and a Christian. And, he had only late in life begun
to understand the concept of: many are Called, but few are Chosen. He became
rather emotional at this point. As I was leaving, He Blessed Me! I told him "I'll see
you again when we get Home". He said "If not before". Outside, Chizuko (the
assistant A.D.) slipped me a twenty dollar donation from the Staff. May God Bless
Them!
Friday August 12 th ~
Walked to the library (to answer some email). Walked to the Chinese Restaurant (to
eat a good meal). Walked a long, round-a-bout way back to the van (to lower the
Blood Sugar).
Drove to Reedsport, Or., and sang at the "Lower Umpqua Nursing Home". Which is
an Extended Care Facility, attached to the Reedsport Hospital. I played an hour and
fifteen minutes for a small group of ten residents. It went very well. With one of the
Nurse's help, I obtained permission to stay the night in the Foursquare Church
parking lot. Spent some time watching 3 Deer grazing in a meadow beside the
church. They were pretty gentle; Let me get within 20 feet of them. They never did
run off, just kind of kept me at that distance.
Saturday August 13 th ~
Laundry Day.
Sunday August 14 th ~
I attended Worship Services at the Foursquare Church, here in Reedsport. I had
been asked to do a Special; and had the Honor of singing "I Surrender All". At the
end of services, Terry (the Pastor) invited me to come up and lead the congregation
in Peggy's favorite song. Peggy is a resident at the nursing home here who has
difficulty expressing herself. She is very adorable and loved by all. Her favorite song
is "Jesus Loves Me".
Members of the church (Herb & his daughter Renee), invited me to lunch and then
over to their house. We enjoyed an afternoon & evening of Fellowship. They
graciously put me up for the night, in an extra bedroom. (kind of nice having room to
spread out a little) Several folks at the Church had Blessed me with donations for
the ministry. May God Bless Them!

Monday August 15 th ~
At Herb & Renee's, I was given Breakfast, a shower, and use of their computer to
send off the UPDATE. May God Bless Them!
Drove to North Bend, Or., where I found a place to park and take Refuge. Seem's I'd
eaten something that didn't agree with me.
Tuesday August 16 th ~
Stayed put. Resting & Recovering.
Wednesday August 17 th ~
Ministered at the "Ocean Crest Retirement & Assisted Living Residence", here in
North Bend. Enjoyed a nice little visit with one of the ladies, before I was due to sing.
Ended up with a Loving group of 15 to 20. The Activity Director (Katy), thanked me
profusely & slipped me a ten dollar donation. May God Bless Her!
I arranged to sing in two more N.H.'s in this area Thursday & Friday. Then obtained
permission to park for several nights, in a church parking lot. Along about 2:00 in
the morning, the locale police stopped by to investigate. One of the Officers
(William), gave me his card with his mother-in-law's name, phone number, and
Nursing Home she Owns, in the next town. Now I have a direction to go Saturday.
Thursday August 18 th ~
I was able to get a shower at the Church. Then, after a stop at the library and a little
exercise, I went to "BayCrest Village HealthCare", in Coos Bay (a town ajoining North
Bend). Where I played during their scheduled monthly Gospel Sing-along. Helen
(the A.D.) told me, the person who normally leads this activity, had to cancel. The
residents seemed to adjust to me quite well. They were able to sing some songs that
they don't usually get to do. One Old-Timer, requested "The Church In The
Wildwood", because he grew-up there in Iowa where that Church is. I had to
apologize, and expressed the Hope that I'd learn the song by the time I got back here
(Lord Willin), next summer. Well you've heard of Circuit Preachers? He said "You
must be a Circuit Singer". Spent some time visiting with the folks. Then, Helen sent
me off with a nice Card, which also contained a twenty dollar donation. May God

Friday August 19 th ~
Ministered at the "Life Care Center" of Coos Bay. Once again, the A.D.(Danielle), had
told me she had 3 girls scheduled to play Gospel music, who had to cancel. So, she
was able to slide me right in. We ended up with a lot of request, as well as most folks
singing along. Went very well.
Back at the Church, the Caretaker's (Rob & Laura), who live on the property; Treated
me to a Taco Bell Dinner. May God Bless Them!
Saturday August 20 th ~
Poured some more No-Smoke in the van. Then drove south to Bandon, Or., and
sang at the "West Wind Court Residential Care Home". The one I'd been referred to
by the Police Officer in North Bend. This is a small facility, privately owned. I
ministered to six residents in a Living Room type atmosphere. It was very calm &
relaxing. The owner (Mary), gave me a twenty dollar contribution. May God Bless
Her!
From there I went around the corner to the "Heritage Place Wellness Center". I had
met the Assistant A.D. (Linda) yesterday at the Wal-Mart in North Bend (25 miles
away). She had taken a bus load of residents shopping. Knowing I would be in
Bandon today, I had made arrangements to play here as well. She had me play in
their Alzheimer's unit. A rather large crowd, which were kind of active at first. But
after a few minutes of singing, they settled down & became attentive. Ended up
going very well. I enjoyed a sit down meal with the residents,which Linda was able to
provide me. May God Bless Her!
Sunday August 21 st ~
Attended Morning Worship Services at the Restoration Worship Center here in
Bandon. Being their monthly Sunday to minister at one of the Nursing Homes, I
joined them in their program, mid- afternoon.
Attended Evening Services at the same place. After services, one of the ladies asked
me to play for her, so, I pulled out the guitar and played three songs. A couple of
other ladies treated me to dinner at Subway. We had a wonderful time of Fellowship.

Monday August 22 nd ~
Headed East to Coquille, Or., to the "Oerding Manor". A thirteen resident, Retirement
Assisted Living Community. The owner's (Ron & Lorene), invited me to join the
residents for lunch. Then, long about 2:00 pm, I sang for a small group in the Parlor.
We had a good ole' time. In addition to a delicious lunch, Ron & Lorene gave me a
donation for the ministry. May God Bless Them!
Tuesday August 23 rd ~
Continued East to Myrtle Point, Or., and ministered at the "Myrtle Point Care
Center". I was allowed to sing during lunch for about 45 minutes. The acoustics were
good, and the staff kept the noise of serving to a minimum. So, folks were able to
hear me pretty good. Afterwards, one lady said "It's hard to sing & eat at the same
time". But she'd tried. Another lady told me about her dad singing these songs. And
how they enjoyed a close Siritual Relationship. She became rather emotional at this
point. I comforted her as best I could.
Travelling East, I stumbled onto a Bureau of Land Management Campground (Free),
located on Bear Creek. At the end of the Hiking Trail, there was a large Swimmin
Hole; So, I finally had a chance to Bathe in a Creek.
Wednesday August 24 th ~
Drove on into Roseburg, Or., to "Rosetta Senior Living". They have two separate
buildings, so, I played during lunch in the first one. Then sat down and visited with
the folks while eating a meal the Administrator had offered. May God Bless Her!
Wayne, one of the residents, gave me a copy of one of his prayer's. Which are in
the form of Poem's, and have been framed and placed around the facility. I then
walked over to the other building and sang for another 45 minutes or so. As I was
thanking everyone for listening; one of the ladies told me "Those words about
Jesus, Send Me". (Her words) "Make's me Want to go, Dancing Down the Street".
Like King David Did.
Later, back towards City Center, I obtained permission to park for the night at the
First Christian Church. Attended their mid-week services where they showed a DVD
of a message given at a Recent, National Pastors Conference. Enlightening!
Afterwards, while enjoying a Coffee & Cookie Social in the basement; A couple
Blessed me with a love offering for the ministry. May God Bless Them!
Thursday August 25 th ~
Played at the "Rose Haven Rehab & Wellness Center", here in Roseburg. Pretty good
size group, mostly Alzheimer's patients. It went very well. I was told by the Assistant
Activity Director, to wright in my Newsletter, that they Loved me here. I said I would.
She also was able to make a contribution to the ministry. May God Bless Her!
Friday August 26 th ~
Drove north to Sutherlin, Or., and ministered at "Douglas House Assisted Living".
Had a wonderful crowd of pretty near all the residents. The acoustics were great, the
folks were open, receptive, and appreciative. Everything simply seemed to Flow!
I continued north on into Eugene, Or., and out to a friend's (Rusty) place for the
night.
Saturday August 27 th ~
A Day of Rest! Had some lengthy dicussions (spiritual) with Rusty, that were
mutually Edifing.
Sunday August 28 th ~
Attended Morning Worship Services with Rusty, in Franklin (a small township just
outside Eugene). Afterwards, we went by to visit Gerdi. A lady who has been
involved in Ministry most her life. And now is dealing with, having to face, the need
for assisted living.
Attended Evening Services back in Franklin. Where they had a little reception for a
recently married couple.
And so begins another week.
